SMART Curb Collaborative City Showcase: Seattle

August 21, 2024

Project Summary

The City of Seattle Department of Transportation is using its USDOT SMART grant to advance work to provide reliable, modernized curb access for commercial vehicles using a collaborative, data-driven approach. With Stage One, Seattle is collecting baseline data at commercial vehicle load zones and testing out two kinds of sensor technology with the goal of adopting new commercial load zone policies in North Downtown Seattle. Seattle is also translating curb data to the Curb Data Specification to create a digital twin for their existing legacy system for curb inventory, load zone events, and related metrics. Seattle’s work informs a new commercial load zone policy with new permit eligibility and pricing rules.

“Seattle is grateful to be a member of the OMF SMART Curb Collaborative. This collaborative approach has helped Seattle implement its Stage One project by providing space to engage with our peer cities and develop best practices on using modern technology paired with the Curb Data Specification to more effectively manage our highest priority needs like urban goods delivery.”
