Now in its 6th year, CoMotion brings together innovative transportation and technology leaders from across the ecosystem for three days of talks, pitches, demos, and workshops on the future of urban mobility. This guide includes all the opportunities to connect with the OMF members and community at the LA conference, November 15 – 17, 2022. We hope to see you there!

Panel: Digital Infrastructure – “Moonshot” to Transform Transportation
Wednesday, November 16: 1:55 PM – 2:30 PM PST
The US federal government has launched a $750B plan to both rebuild and further develop the nation’s physical transportation infrastructure. To optimize that massive investment and pave the way for decades of mobility innovation, USDOT is now developing a comprehensive plan to establish a reference model for “digital transportation infrastructure,” establishing definitions and standard interfaces for the components required to realize this vision. Much like in the 70’s, where the technology industry coalesced around a reference model for networking that led to the Internet of today, the federal government, working with states and cities, is creating the building blocks to catalyze the same opportunity in transportation. Over the last three years, cities through the Open Mobility Foundation, have taken the lead on basic elements of the system with the development of APIs such as MDS and CDS. This work must now be integrated into a comprehensive, cohesive, national architecture that will unleash the same opportunities in transportation that the Internet did for the world.
Panel: Maximizing Technology to Minimize Collisions
Wednesday, November 16, 2:30 PM – 3:25 PM PST
Safety on the streets must be at the heart of the truly multimodal city – yet traffic deaths have been increasing in recent years. How are cities and companies using data and new technologies to try reversing this trend? How can they reduce risks that come with the increasing variety of vehicles on our streets?
Panel: Regional Evolution – From Sprawl to the 15-Minute City
Thursday, November 17, 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM PST
Placing almost everything a city-dweller could need within a 15-minute walk or bike ride is an increasingly important strategy in the pursuit of more sustainable, equitable, and healthier urban environments. Unfortunately, transitioning sprawling, car-centric megaregions to more compact ‘15-minute’ communities is no easy task. What changes in land use policies should be implemented to create the necessary diversity of housing, jobs, and services? How can technology increase access to opportunities beyond the 15 minute radius, whether it’s last-mile delivery services providing goods to those who don’t have their own cars, or technologies that enable remote work?
Panel: Code as Common Language of the Multimodal City
Thursday, November 17, 11:15 AM – 12:15 PM PST
The data revolution has allowed cities to analyze mobility challenges and program for more responsiveness, safety and sustainability. How are citizens navigating this new hyper-connected and data-driven world? How is digital infrastructure being used to manage the equitable distribution of mobility assets and improve the efficient use of curb space? With the city becoming increasingly multimodal, can we expand MDS and CDS capabilities to emerging modes such as robots and autonomous vehicles?
